FAQ - Can I Add Extra Lights On My Semi Truck/Trailer?
Having proper lighting on your semi truck or heavy duty truck is a very important safety feature. Whether you’re driving in the early morning, late at night, or through heavy rainfall, it’s important to let other vehicles around you know that you’re on the road.
When it comes to outfitting your truck and trailer with lighting, it’s important to make sure that you’re doing so in a legal manner. To ensure your truck’s lighting is acceptable and in line with regulations, here is a list of equipment that is needed:
- Lower & Upper Beam Headlights
- Parking Lamps
- Daytime Running Lamps
- Front Turn Signal/Hazard Warning Lights
- Front Clearance Lamps, ID Lamps, Side Marker Lamps & Reflex Reflectors
- Rear Turn Signal/Hazard Warning Lamps
- Rear Clearance Lamps, ID Lamps, Side Marker Lamps, Reflex Reflectors
- Tail Lamps
- Stop Lamps
- Backup Lamp
- License Plate Lamp
- Center High Mounted Stop Lamp
- Rear Upper Body Marking
- Rear Marking
In addition to truck lighting, having proper trailer lighting is also important. Here is a list of federal lighting requirements for trailers:
- Tail Lamps

- Rear Turn Signal, Reflex Reflectors, Side Marker Lamps & Side Reflex Reflectors
