Suspension Repair FAQS

Is suspension worth fixing?

In many cases, your damaged suspension will be worth fixing. Normally, only a few parts need to be replaced, and it’s rare to need all components removed or replaced. While it can be costly, it is far cheaper than a new vehicle. If by some chance, you need a complete system that is worth more than the vehicle it’s going in, you may have to decide if it’s worth putting the money into it.

How much does it cost to rebuild a suspension?

Depending on the components needed, a suspension rebuild can be extremely expensive. On the low end, you may be able to replace most parts for $1,000 to $1,500, but in some cases, it can be several thousand dollars to rebuild the whole suspension system. On the high end, you may be looking at around $5,000 to perform major restoration on a suspension system.

What happens when the suspension goes out?

What happens when your suspension goes out will depend on what suspension component fails or breaks. If a shock absorber goes out, the vehicle will have a change in handling, and the ride would become stiffer in the area. If the leaf spring breaks, on the other hand, it can cause the corner of the vehicle to sag, and it can damage the wheel or tire.

Can I drive my truck with a broken shock?

In most cases, yes, you’ll be able to drive your truck with a broken shock. The drive will be significantly less comfortable, and it may require some additional caution since the handling of the truck will be different. The truck may have looser handling while hitting bumps harder, making it more difficult to control overall. You may also experience diving and rolling when stopping or turning.
