FAQ - Do I Need A 7-Way Cable If I Have ABS On My Trailer?

When talking about ABS, it’s very important to know whether your truck is outfitted with this feature along with if your trailer is as well. ABS (antilock brake system) is one of the most important additions to heavy duty trucks and trailers in the past 20 years. This system allows for the brakes to not totally lock up so the driver is still able to control their truck and trailer if a skidding situation occurs.

If you’re wondering if you need a 7-way cable if your trailer already has ABS, the answer varies. For vehicles that have an ABS, it’s important to always use an ABS cable. Tractors that are ABS equipped that are hauling trailers without this feature should use an ABS cable or a non-ABS cable. If your trailer has ABS while your truck doesn’t have it, you must always use an ABS cable.
